Awesome Day! With My Kids!

Michael

Mother's Day......love my family!  We spent the day together (minus Hank -sad face- because he had to work) at Lindsey and Joey's.  Mark and I went to church with them then Holly, Michael, and Caden met us at the DeHart house for lunch.  And it was yummy lunching!  Joey and Michael did most of the prep.  (Applause!!!!) But we all helped! It was a great spread - shrimp, steak, and chicken with all the fixings for tacos.  I'm telling you.....it was good!

Sunday was not only Mother's Day.  It was also Michael's 29th birthday.  Yep.  29! He caught up with me!)
We are all singing to him.  See his face?  He is enduring our off-key song! Ha!

He liked the "25" candles - I think he chose to ignore the four single candles.

Success!  He blew out all the candles.  I think Caden helped.

I will share the recipe because it was really really tasty.

STRAWBERRY SWIRL CREAM CHEESE POUND CAKE
1 1/2 cups butter, softened
3 cups sugar
1 (8oz) pkg cream cheese, softened
6 large eggs
3 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp. almond extract
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
2/3 cup strawberry glaze

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Beat butter at medium speed with an electric mixer until creamy.  Gradually add sugar, beating at the medium speed until light and fluffy.  Add cream cheese, beating until creamy.  Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating just until blended after each addition.
2.  gradually add flour to butter mixture.  Beat at low speed just until blended after each addition, stopping to scrape bowl as needed.  Stir in almond and vanilla extracts.  Pour one-third of batter into greased and floured 10-inch (14 cup) tube pan (about 2 2/3 cups batter).  dollop 8 rounded teaspoonfuls strawberry glaze over batter, and swirl with wooden skewer.  Repeat procedure once, and top with remaining third of batter.
3.  Bake at 350 for 1 hour and 10 minutes or until a long wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean.  Cool in pan on a wire rack 10-15 minutes; remove from pan to wire rack, and cool completely (about 1 hour).

I served whole strawberries and whipped topping with it AND Oreo Vanilla ice cream.  Oh yeah!

The day continues with Joey and Michael concentrating on a project:
The rest of us went down to Lindsey's salon and watched her do her best to give Caden, the wiggly worm, a hair cut.  She accomplished the task with much patience. Yea, Lindsey!  He looks so cute!
This kid is a mess!  He sure keeps us on our toes.  We tried not to laugh - but we did....Lindsey was so patient as he would stop her so he could wipe the hair off his neck over and over and over again!
He told me he was closing his eyes so the hair didn't get in!

Bath time!  Gotta get that hair off!!!!!  It is everywhere!!!  Then he did the fish swim for me!  He is a water bug!  My kind of kid!
Joey and Michael are still pretty busy with their project.  Dedicated to the cause, for sure!

Took a picture of the kids.....but Lindsey was missing.......
Here she is.  What is this?  Oh, yeah, the brownies she let Caden make.  She makes us think the brownie making is for Caden.  I am thinking it may be for her!!!  My little chocoholic!

Thank you Holly, Lindsey, Mark, Michael, Caden, and Joey for a fun-filled day with you.  You are all the very best a mom can ask for.  I love you each very much - I thank God for you each day.  You are the best!

Sister's Birthday Gift

I just had to do Mark's idea - and he helped me - to make a gift for Nancy for her birthday.  I had seen this little poem about growing up with a sister and thought it was perfect.  So we went to several thrift stores looking for the perfect sized canvas picture and after only two stops - found it! This is the canvas with the letters I stuck on it and I began there in the bottom corner to paint it a dark brown.  The canvas is a golden with thin trees and some words in cursive in a light brown.   As you see, I was using a paint brush, but I changed to a small roller.  It worked much much better. Completely painted the top and the sides of the canvas a brown color.  Then I let it dry - probably about 30 minutes.  Then pealed off the letters! Here is the finished product: And it's true.  I did tell on her - it was for her own good. :)
