A Great Saturday in October!

Today was a really nice day and I did several fun activities and I would like to tell you about them!  First I went to Wally World in search of a fun pumpkin like item.  And Jack Pot!  I found something great!  I want to send something to Mark Marky who is away at college and to my wild and crazy grandson.  Look and see what you think!!!
I used a permanent marker to make the face on the pastic container and put mailing an address label on the back and then wrapped it with clear packing tape.  Monday I will take them to the post office.  Fun!

Crock Pot Story
Everyone has a Crock Pot, right?  I have been without one for about 4 months.  My latest one broke - the control knob broke off and a leg broke off.  It really did not cook all that well, so it was time to chunk it.  I have had a Crock Pot since the day I was married.  In fact, funniest thing, we had 16 Crock Pots!  I guess 1977 was the year of the Crock Pot!!!!  Can you believe we got 16 Crock Pots for wedding gifts??!!  We took back 14 of them.  The one I used was a red brick look one that the crock came out of.  The other one I kept, the crock was not removable and I don't remember what ever happened to it.  But I used the brick one for lots of years.  In fact, it was broken when it was knocked off the counter at a church dinner in 1995!  Yep, I had that thing for 18 years!  So..........while I was at Wally World I bought me a new one and it is so cute!  Look...................
I will use it tomorrow for my chicken black bean recipe!  Yum!

Pumpkin Treats
I tried a new pumpkin recipe I saw on Pinterest.  You remember the Rice Krispie Treats?  Well, I added pumpkin to it.  You use the regular recipe and after the butter and marshmallow are melted you add a 1/4 cup of pumpkin and  1 1/2 tsp. of Pumpkin Spice.  Then put it in the pan and let it sit.  Once it is cool and firm, melt 6 oz of butterscotch morsel and drizzle on top and sprinkle with cinnamon.  But DO NOT substitute an off brand of rice cereal.  Soggy.  I learned that the hard way.

Window Painting

I also did some painting today on a window.  It was a quick and simple little painting, but I like it.

Our women at church are going to gave a night of Coffee and Conversation this month so I wanted to make this to highlight our event.

So today was a really nice day.  I enjoyed being home today cooking, painting and fixing the pumpkin gifts for my boys.  I enjoyed the outting with my sweet and funny husband as we went to visit new friends.  I enjoyed the cup of Pumpkin Spice coffee on my porch.  Yes, it was a good day.

December is coming pretty fast, y'all.  And there is this little thing I have done for my kids ever since about 1988. I give my kids a "Happy December" present. When the girls were in elementary school and they came home from school on December 1st,  I usually had a little something laying out on their bed to find. A Christmas sweatshirt I made or a cute pair of Christmas socks or Christmas hair bow - something cute or fun to begin the holiday season. They are now adults, but I still get them something each December 1.  I mail it. Or if I see them at Thanksgiving, I can give it to them. I still do little things - Christmas earrings, Bath & Body Works Peppermint soap, a holiday candle. Oh, and I have a son that I don't leave out of the "Happy December" gifting. He has his own apartment now, so I can give him festive items, like Santa salt and pepper shakers or a Dunkin Donuts gift card for a speciality coffee. Or one year I gave him a pack of lip balm (ye...

Sister's Birthday Gift

I just had to do Mark's idea - and he helped me - to make a gift for Nancy for her birthday.  I had seen this little poem about growing up with a sister and thought it was perfect.  So we went to several thrift stores looking for the perfect sized canvas picture and after only two stops - found it! This is the canvas with the letters I stuck on it and I began there in the bottom corner to paint it a dark brown.  The canvas is a golden with thin trees and some words in cursive in a light brown.   As you see, I was using a paint brush, but I changed to a small roller.  It worked much much better. Completely painted the top and the sides of the canvas a brown color.  Then I let it dry - probably about 30 minutes.  Then pealed off the letters! Here is the finished product: And it's true.  I did tell on her - it was for her own good. :)
