Happy Birthday!

It was this little guys birthday yesterday.  He is our first grandchild and has a special place in our hearts!  He is a great kid who is thoughtful, fun, active....did I say active? He gave his life to Jesus in August of this year and we are so proud of him.  He does like his brownies, but also eats his veggies and shrimps with just as much enthusiasm! Happy 11th Birthday, Caden!  We love you!!!

Sister's Birthday Gift

I just had to do Mark's idea - and he helped me - to make a gift for Nancy for her birthday.  I had seen this little poem about growing up with a sister and thought it was perfect.  So we went to several thrift stores looking for the perfect sized canvas picture and after only two stops - found it! This is the canvas with the letters I stuck on it and I began there in the bottom corner to paint it a dark brown.  The canvas is a golden with thin trees and some words in cursive in a light brown.   As you see, I was using a paint brush, but I changed to a small roller.  It worked much much better. Completely painted the top and the sides of the canvas a brown color.  Then I let it dry - probably about 30 minutes.  Then pealed off the letters! Here is the finished product: And it's true.  I did tell on her - it was for her own good. :)

Nutella Stuffed French Toast with Strawberries

Breakfast was great!  Your family will love this!  I had my sweet, fun, crazy kid grandson for the night.  So I wanted to do something fun for breakfast.  I found this recipe on Pinterest so I can tell you - good, simple, really good! 1 cup sliced strawberries 2 tsp sugar                                 >  mix and set aside juice of half a lemon 4 thick slices bread                     > cut pocket in bread, 1/2 cup Nutella                               insert Nutella 1 large egg 3/4 cup milk 2 TBSP melted butter                   >mix with whisk, 1 tsp vanilla                                    dip bread i...

Pretzels

This was a fun little snack I wanted to try.  But I will have to warn you - watch it the last 15 minutes really closely.  I had them in the oven, stirring every 10 minutes.  The recipe said to cook it 30 minutes, but I should have taken them out at 20.  The last 10 minutes turned them too dark.  It is probably my oven, so if you try this - keep your eyes on them.  Here is the recipe: 16 oz. pretzels - put in a roasting pan Mix: 1/2 cup oil, 1/2 cup sugar, and 2 teaspoons cinnamon Pour mixture over pretzels.  Place in 300 degree oven.  Bake for 30 minutes.  Stir every 10 minutes. Take out of oven and spread out on paper towels to cool.  Store in airtight container. Another little tip - I would double the cinnamon next time I make it.  But I like cinnamon!
